Personalise content on Search, Discover, and News platforms

Enhance your Google experience by customising the content you view with new functionalities across Search, Discover, and Google News. You can now prioritise your favourite publishers using the new “Preferred Source” button for Search and AI results. Additionally, soon you will be able to refine your Discover feed by directly entering specific interests into the app. For those who prefer audio, the Google News app offers the ability to tailor daily news briefings to focus on topics that matter most to you.

Google aims to make it simpler for users to access news and topics of personal interest. Users now have the option to mark their preferred websites, ensuring these appear more frequently in search results and AI summaries. Furthermore, by specifying interests, you can shape your Discover feed to better align with your preferences. These updates are designed to give you more control, making your feed feel more tailored to your interests.

Whether interested in global news or local topics, finding relevant sources and subjects should be straightforward. Today, new personalisation features are being introduced across Search, Discover, and Google News to enhance user experience and assist publishers in building stronger reader relationships.

A new interactive “Preferred Sources” button is being launched, which publishers can integrate into their pages. When readers click this button, the site is added as a Preferred Source on Google, and they are redirected to the publisher’s page where they left off. This feature will help users easily find their preferred publications in Top Stories, AI Overviews, and AI Mode. Publishers, in turn, can connect more seamlessly with their audience. Already, over 600,000 unique sources have been selected by users.

For publishers interested in this feature, the “Preferred Source” button code is available in the Google Search Central documentation.

Soon, personalising your Discover feed will be as simple as texting a friend. Want to explore kitchen renovation ideas with a focus on eco-friendly solutions? Interested in videos about weekend road trips but not camping? In the coming days, the Google app will allow you to tap any three-dot menu in your feed to tell Google, in your words, which topics or links you wish to see more or less of. Your feed will adjust dynamically and remember your preferences, enabling Discover to connect you with content that genuinely resonates with your current interests.

If you enjoy receiving news updates while on the move, the Google News app on Android is making it more convenient to customise your daily audio briefings. You can now select specific topics, with clear source attribution and links to full articles, allowing for deeper exploration of what matters to you. Thanks to the diverse range of publishers participating in the news AI pilot program, you’ll receive in-depth insights into significant stories within your briefings.

These new personalisation features are designed to make your Google experience truly unique. With the Preferred Source button, staying connected with your favourite sites has never been easier.
