  • The farmer-owned enterprise has built processing infrastructure and adopted professional branding and packaging standards to strengthen its position in the consumer market.
  • The recognition marks Chandanavana FPCL’s transition from aggregating raw produce to operating a full-fledged food processing enterprise.

Chandanavana Farmer Producer Company Limited (FPCL), a farmer-owned enterprise built by 1,013 farmers in Gadag district, has been conferred the Excellence Award for Best FPO in Food Processing at Krishi Vikram 2026, organized by the India Chamber of Commerce under the theme “Viksit Krishi for Viksit Bharat 2047.”

The recognition marks a significant milestone in the company’s journey from aggregating raw produce to building stronger food processing and value-addition capabilities, with support from ISAP India Foundation through a program supported by the Walmart Foundation.

Registered on 27 July 2021, Chandanavana FPCL was supported under this project to build processing infrastructure. Chandanavana FPCL’s progress reflects the broader focus of ISAP India Foundation’s program to strengthen 15 FPCs in North Karnataka through value addition, improved processing capabilities and greater market readiness.

A solar-powered dal processing unit allows the company to process local pulses while reducing its reliance on conventional electricity. Through this infrastructure, groundnut, chilli and pulses are now processed into oil, chilli powder and packaged dal, creating opportunities for value addition beyond the sale of raw produce.

Building Market-Ready, Professionally Branded Products

During a field visit, Nishant Gupta, Social & Environmental Impact Advisor to Walmart.Org, encouraged FPC members to focus on professional branding and transparent product information, including ingredients, nutritional information, weight and other mandatory labeling requirements. Reflecting on the FPCL’s progress, he said, “Farmer Producer Organizations can play an important role in connecting smallholder farmers with markets and creating opportunities for greater value addition. Chandanavana FPCL’s recognition reflects the progress farmer-led organizations can make as they strengthen their capabilities and build sustainable enterprises. We congratulate Chandanavana FPCL and ISAP India Foundation on this recognition.”

The Excellence Award for Best FPO in Food Processing recognizes Chandanavana FPCL’s progress in strengthening its processing capabilities, value addition and market readiness.

Mr. Basavaraj Bevinamarad, Chairman of Chandanvana FPCL said, “This award belongs to every one of our 1,013 farmer-members. What began as a way to process our own produce has become a company that can compete at the national level. The support we received- from machinery to guidance on how to present our products professionally- has been central to this journey.”

This guidance complemented ISAP India Foundation’s broader efforts to strengthen the FPC’s market readiness, including professional branding, packaging and transparent product information. These efforts have supported Chandanavana FPCL as it moves from collective aggregation towards value-added processing and marketing, strengthening how its farmer-produced goods are presented to consumers and building its market relationships.
