WhatsApp is enhancing its group chat features to help users stay connected with their communities, whether it’s a close-knit group or a fantasy football league. These improvements include updates to polls, a new way to alert everyone in a chat, and the option to create new group chats from existing ones.
Streamlining group coordination
Polls in group chats are now more versatile with three new enhancements. You can set an end time to close voting once the deadline passes. There’s also the option to keep voter identities anonymous, encouraging more open sharing of opinions. Additionally, you have a 15-minute window to edit poll questions in case of typos or to add clarifications. These changes aim to make decision-making quicker and easier, whether it’s deciding on meeting times, locations, or activities.
Notify the entire group
The introduction of the @all mention allows you to reach everyone in a chat without tagging individuals separately. This is especially useful for urgent notifications like last-minute plan changes, event deadlines, or school and office closures. For groups larger than 32 participants, only admins can use the @all feature. Even if you’ve muted a chat, you can choose how to receive notifications and have the option to mute @all mentions in your settings.
Organize new chats efficiently
Starting a new group chat from an existing one is now possible with a single tap, eliminating the need to add members individually. This feature is ideal for initiating side discussions to plan surprise events, coordinate detailed logistics, or explore specific topics without filling up the main chat.
Earlier this year, WhatsApp introduced features like group message history, member tags, and event reminders, enhancing user experience. The latest updates continue this trend, reinforcing WhatsApp’s commitment to providing a superior group chat platform.
